The Arun Class lifeboat P&O Nedlloyd Encounter was deployed from Sydney to Ulladulla late 2006 to replace the Waveney Class P&O Nedlloyd Strathallan. The much larger and faster vessel means an expanded search and rescue role for the division on the NSW South Coast.
The 52ft Encounter, with a crew of seven, was formerly with the British RNLI at Falmouth and has a distinguished service record which is likely to be quickly enhanced at her new home. It was commissioned last year after eight months of hard work and many setbacks for members.
The Shark Cat is named in honour of Danny Lewis and Craig Dunn, two young Ulladulla men who were victims of the tragic Bali bombing in October 2002.
Their families kindly consented to help us ensure they have a lasting memorial with close links to the ocean they both loved.
Capable of more than 40 knots, the 7-metre Lewis-Dunn has a crew of four and is often called upon to help boat-owners in trouble off Ulladulla.
