Any boat driver knows the value of an auxiliary if things start going wrong with the main engine.
Coastal Patrol crews are no exception but the auxiliary that helps keeps them out of trouble is a group of dedicated women.
They make up the Ladies’ Auxiliary and organise a variety of fund-raising activities that literally help keep the rescue vessels afloat.
Pie-baking, lamington drives, raffles and fashion parades are some of the activities that have produced the funds for vital equipment.
Hours of slaving over hot chocolate have helped supply such essential and costly equipment as marine batteries, electronic equipment, life rafts and a host of other items.
The ladies also run the Ulladulla Division’s food kiosk at to the base and have a snack caravan at the monthly harbour-side markets.
Some of the auxiliary members have family connections with the patrol, others join for the friendship and satisfaction of doing something really worthwhile.
New members are always welcome and can drop in to the base or call for monthly meeting details.
